Trends and Streaks in Champions League
Bayern Munich vs Paris Saint-Germain 6 May 2026 Prediction
The meeting between the two highest-scoring teams in the Champions League delivered a remarkable first leg in Paris. PSG and Bayern combined for nine goals in a 5-4 match, setting a new record for Champions League semifinals.
In UEFA competitions, PSG have advanced in 14 of 17 ties after winning the first leg by one goal. Can Luis Enrique’s side confirm that trend in Munich?
Bayern Have Shown Strong Resilience
The hosts have already settled their domestic objectives in the Bundesliga. However, squad rotation and the absence of tournament pressure have not stopped Bayern from fighting for results. In April, they earned comeback wins over Freiburg (3-2) and Mainz (4-3), and in the previous round they avoided defeat against Heidenheim with a goal in the 100th minute (3-3).
Bayern also kept competing in Paris despite trailing 5-2 around the hour mark. A one-goal deficit is manageable, especially since the Munich side have won all six of their home matches in this Champions League campaign. Still, there is a concern for Bayern supporters: the club has reached a European final only once in 10 attempts after losing the first leg of a semifinal.
PSG Are Clinical in Attack
PSG have not officially secured the French league title yet, but their rivals’ inconsistency makes their position very strong. That allows Luis Enrique to rotate heavily in Ligue 1. Even with changes to the lineup, PSG had a clear advantage against Lorient, who were fortunate to leave Parc des Princes with a point after a 2-2 draw.
In the Champions League knockout stage, PSG have been extremely efficient in front of goal. Across four matches against Chelsea and Liverpool, the Paris club scored 12 goals from a combined 5.43 xG. In the first leg against Bayern, PSG turned 1.9 xG into five goals, with all five shots on target finding the net. That had not happened since 2000.
Bayern vs PSG Predicted Lineup
Bayern (4-2-3-1): Neuer – Stanisic, Upamecano, Tah, Laimer – Kimmich, Pavlovic – Olise, Musiala, Diaz – Kane
Unavailable: Gnabry, Karl, Guerreiro, Maik (all injured), Ndiaye (not in the squad)
Manager: Vincent Kompany
PSG (4-3-3): Safonov – Zaire-Emery, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes – Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves – Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia
Unavailable: Hakimi, Chevalier, Njantu (all injured)
Manager: Luis Enrique
Referee: Joao Pinheiro (Portugal)
The closer the Champions League gets to the final, the stricter Joao Pinheiro has been in this competition. In four of his last five matches, the Portuguese referee showed at least four yellow cards, including Bayern’s match against PSV. He also officiated a UEFA Super Cup match involving PSG, where he issued five yellow cards.
- Officiated nine Champions League matches in the 2025/26 season
- Averaged 3.7 yellow cards and 21.2 fouls per game
- Showed two red cards (22%)
- Awarded one penalty (11%)
Bayern vs PSG Prediction: PSG Double Chance at 2.29
Main Prediction: PSG’s squad is built around several young players, but over the past two seasons they have gained valuable experience against some of the strongest clubs in the world. The pressure at Allianz Arena should not be enough to unsettle them. Bayern’s defense also makes too many mistakes: the team has conceded in six straight Champions League matches. In April, Bayern allowed at least two goals even against Mainz (4-3) and Stuttgart (4-2), as well as Real Madrid (4-3). It is difficult to keep covering defensive errors with attacking output, especially against one of the most dangerous attacks in Europe. PSG double chance looks worth considering at 2.29.
Total Goals Prediction: Bayern and PSG showed no real intention of playing cautiously in the first leg. Both managers tried to beat the opponent through open, attacking soccer. There is little reason to expect a major change in approach in Munich, especially since both teams average close to three goals per game in the Champions League. Over 4.5 goals is a reasonable option at 2.15.
Correct Score Prediction: High-scoring matches have become common for Bayern this spring. In three straight games, they have both scored and conceded three goals. PSG’s attack is also in strong form, producing 13 goals across its last four matches. A 3-3 correct score is a higher-risk option at 22.00.
