Bayer Leverkusen vs Hamburger 16 May 2026 User Predictions and Betting Tips

OVER (4).
leverkusen at home usually brings plenty of pace and pressure, and with a total set at 4 this has some real shootout vibes. hamburger can be stubborn, but if leverkusen get rolling the goals can pile up fast, so over 4 looks like a live angle even at a decent number.

UNDER (3.5).
decent spot for under 3.5 here, leverkusen at home should control it and hsv aren’t exactly screaming chaos either. line is ok at 2.10, feels like a 2-0 or 2-1 type game, not crazy to lean the low side.

UNDER (3.5).
leverkusen usually have enough control for a measured game, and hamburg may be happy to keep it tight. under 3.5 looks a fair price if this stays sensible rather than open.

UNDER (4).
leverkusen at home and hamburg can nick one, but this line stikl feels fair to me. i’d lean under 4 goals, not overthinking it - decent nymber if the game stays controlled.

HANDICAP 2 (2).
Leverkusen at home and still the stronger side, but this number isn’t crazy for Hamburg to hang around. 2 looks playable if you’re getting the extra goal, just need them to keep it tight and nick a result or lose by one.

HANDICAP 2 (2).
Leverkusen look the likelier side, but the market looks short on them if you expect Hamburg to keep this respectable after that tight earlier meeting. The away handicap at 1.76 is playable, as HSV should have enough grit to stay inside the number even if the hosts have the better edge.

HANDICAP 1 (-1.5).
Leverkusen at home, and the market’s asking for a two-goal win. That’s a big number, but the spot makes sense if they come out on the front foot and turn possession into pressure fast.

UNDER (3.5).
leverkusen still looks a bit shaky at the back and hamburg can drag this into a more controlled game so under 3.5 has a decent angle at a good enough price, feels like 2-1 or 2-0 more than a wild shootout

HANDICAP 2 (1.5).
leverkusen at home looks the likeliee side to set the pace, but hamburg have been decent enough defensively to keep things from getting silly. yhe 1.5 on the away side has a bit of value, i reckon, as even if leverkuaen edge it, a tight scoreline still gets this through.

OVER (4).
Leverkusen at home, Hamburg can get dragged into a track meet. Over 4 looks a decent line at that price.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Hamburger 16 May 2026 Prediction

Bayer Leverkusen enters the final round three points outside the Champions League zone. To get back into the top four, the team not only needs to win but also has to hope that both Hoffenheim and Stuttgart lose their matches.

Hamburg can move up only one place, to 10th, if it takes points here. That is not the strongest motivation, but it would still mean additional prize money for the club.

Inconsistency Has Hurt Bayer Leverkusen

After being eliminated from the Champions League, Bayer returned to the top-four race with renewed energy. However, that momentum never lasted more than two matches. A strong comeback against Wolfsburg, 6-3, and an unexpected away win over Borussia Dortmund, 1-0, were followed by a poor 2-1 loss to Augsburg. After an excellent performance against Leipzig, 4-1, the team then lost 3-1 to Stuttgart in what was effectively a decisive match.

Bayer sporting director Simon Rolfes publicly criticized the players after the last round for lacking resilience. There are also clear indications that the setback could be a major reason for Kasper Hjulmand’s departure. The players have a good relationship with the Danish manager, so they should at least try to give him a strong send-off.

Hamburg Avoided the Relegation Battle

Hamburg slowed down noticeably in the spring. Part of that was due to a difficult schedule, but the 3-1 loss to Werder Bremen in the northern derby and narrow draws with Augsburg, 1-1, and Cologne, 1-1, also pointed to a drop in performance. In May, however, Hamburg beat Eintracht, 2-1, and Freiburg, 3-2, preventing either team from gaining an advantage in the European race.

Merlin Polzin has faced criticism, but under him the club secured its main objective ahead of time for the first time in 13 years. Hamburg has been fairly convincing at home and has even taken points from stronger opponents there. Its away record is much weaker: in 16 road matches, the team has taken 13 points and has one of the league’s worst goal differences away from home, 14-31.

Key Things to Know

  • Bayer has won 3 of the 4 matches this season in which its odds were below 1.50. Its goal difference in those games is 17-5.
  • Bayer has opened the scoring in 12 of its 16 home Bundesliga matches.
  • Hamburg has seen both teams score in 8 of its 10 matches against top-six clubs.

Bayer Leverkusen vs Hamburg Predicted Lineup

Bayer Leverkusen (3-4-2-1): Flekken — Andrich, Quansah, Tapsoba — Calbreath, Palacios, Garcia, Grimaldo — Maza, Poku — Schick

Out: Terrier (injury), Tella, Kofane (both doubtful)

Manager: Kasper Hjulmand

Hamburg (3-4-2-1): Heuer Fernandes — Omari, Vuskovic, Torunarigha — Jatta, Remberg, Lokonga, Gronbaek — Vieira, Konigsdorffer — Stange

Out: Ressing-Lelesiit (injury), Capaldo, Muheim, Glatzel (all doubtful)

Manager: Merlin Polzin

Referee: Tobias Stieler

Stieler usually allows physical play without using too many whistles or yellow cards. At the same time, he has not been reluctant to show red cards or award penalties in this Bundesliga season. Hamburg has had him twice, while Bayer has played five matches with Stieler in charge over the last year and a half. Neither team has received more than two yellow cards in any of those games.

  • 13 Bundesliga matches officiated in the 2025/26 season
  • Averages: 3 yellow cards and 19.92 fouls per match
  • Penalties awarded in 3 matches (23.1%)
  • Red cards shown in 4 matches (30.8%)

Bayer Leverkusen vs Hamburg Prediction: Bayer Leverkusen -1.5 at 1.70

  • Main Pick: The teams enter the final round with different levels of motivation. Hamburg does not have much to play for. Extra prize money is useful for the club, but it is unlikely to be a major factor for the players. Bayer, meanwhile, still has a theoretical chance to finish in the top four. At minimum, the home side should look to respond in front of its fans and do everything within its control. It is also notable that 10 of Bayer’s 11 home wins across all competitions have come by at least two goals. The pick is Bayer Leverkusen -1.5 at 1.70.
  • Total Pick: Only three Bundesliga teams score more often at home than Bayer. Almost half of Bayer’s home goals, 17 of 37, have come against clear lower-level opponents, and Hamburg’s away profile fits that category. Hamburg has also scored in 8 of its last 10 matches against top teams. The pick is over 3.5 goals at 1.73.
  • Correct Score Pick: Bayer already has a strong goal difference, so it does not necessarily need a heavy win. Hamburg is also unlikely to want to end the season with a one-sided defeat, especially since it has suffered only one heavy loss in 2026. The visitors have scored two or more away goals in only 4 of 18 matches across all competitions, and only once against a top-six team. The preferred correct score is 3-1 at 10.00.
