Galatasaray Istanbul vs Venezia 27 July 2026 Prediction
Galatasaray opened its training camp in Austria with a loss to newly promoted Serie A side Monza. The Turkish champion now faces another Italian opponent of a similar level. Can Venezia follow Monza’s example and avoid defeat?
Problems Playing Through the Press
Galatasaray is preparing to defend its Turkish league title but still cannot fully rely on several players who recently returned from the World Cup. Leroy Sané, Barış Alper Yılmaz, Yunus Akgün, and Abdülkerim Bardakcı have only just returned from vacation and are unlikely to start. Galatasaray’s lineup has therefore been far from full strength in its opening friendlies, making the 0-2 loss to Monza less surprising. Okan Buruk has also given significant playing time to younger players.
Davinson Sánchez’s absence has been particularly noticeable. Without him, Galatasaray has struggled to play through pressure. Monza created several chances after winning the ball high up the field and could easily have scored more than twice. The backup goalkeepers have also looked uncertain while replacing Uğurcan Çakır. Günay Güvenç made several mistakes against Monza, while Jankat Yılmaz’s poor decision on a corner led to the only goal conceded in the 5-1 win over Ümraniyespor. Çakır has returned to team training and could feature against Venezia.
Galatasaray has also been unusually quiet in the transfer market, completing only one signing this summer. Defensive midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu joined from Burnley and made a positive impact as a substitute against the Turkish second-tier side, winning the ball well and carrying it forward under pressure. He was much less effective against Monza. Victor Osimhen, however, looked sharp after coming on in the second half and created several dangerous chances. The Nigerian striker is expected to start this time.
Major Transfer Activity
Venezia spent only one season outside the top division. Giovanni Stroppa has a strong record of earning promotion and added to it by leading Venezia to the Serie B title last season. The team began preseason more than two weeks ago and has already played two friendlies against third-tier Italian opponents, defeating Dolomiti Bellunesi 4-2 and Vis Pesaro 8-0.
Venezia won both matches comfortably despite extensive rotation and combined aggressive pressing with effective positional attacks. Several new signings also impressed against weaker opposition. Right back Thierry Correia, signed from Valencia, and midfielder Toma Bašić, who arrived from Lazio, were particularly effective. Correia provided constant width and attacking runs on the right, while Bašić helped replace last season’s midfield leader Issa Doumbia, who was sold to Sporting.
Venezia’s strongest depth is in attack. The club recently completed the most expensive transfer in its history, signing Akor Adams from Sevilla for €16 million. Adams scored 10 La Liga goals in the 2025/26 season and is expected to become the team’s leading attacker. He will be supported by another new signing, Albion Rrahmani, who has already scored his first goal for Venezia. John Yeboah, Andrea Adorante, and Tim Lemperle also provide options from the bench. Galatasaray’s experimental defense should face another difficult test.
Galatasaray vs Venezia Predicted Lineup
Galatasaray (4-2-3-1): Çakır; Jelert, Ünyay, Nelsson, Karataş; Ugochukwu, Gündoğan; Sallai, Sara, A. Güner; Osimhen
Unavailable: D. Sánchez, Singo (both not in the squad), Baltacı (suspended)
Manager: Okan Buruk
Venezia (3-5-2): Stanković; Gómez, Schingtienne, Bella-Kotchap; Correia, Bašić, Busio, Dagasso, Lige; Rrahmani, Adams
Unavailable: Šverko, Tavernaro (both injured)
Manager: Giovanni Stroppa
Galatasaray vs Venezia Prediction: Venezia Double Chance
Main prediction: Galatasaray is the stronger team overall, but several important players are not yet ready to start, which reduces the gap between the sides. Venezia’s style should also cause problems. Stroppa’s team relies heavily on high pressing, while Galatasaray has struggled to build from the back without Sánchez and his passing quality. The pick is Venezia double chance.
Total prediction: Neither side has prioritized defensive stability during the early stages of preseason. Only one of the four summer friendlies involving Galatasaray and Venezia produced fewer than six goals. Galatasaray also created enough chances to score in the 0-2 loss to Monza. The pick is over 2.5 total goals.
