Shakhtar Donetsk vs Crystal Palace 30 April 2026 Prediction
Shakhtar has been the biggest surprise of the Conference League semifinals. Few expected the Ukrainian side to make it this far. A full upset is now within reach, but the team faces the tournament favorite on the other side. The question is whether Crystal Palace will justify that status right away in the first leg.
Shakhtar Is Fully Focused on Europe
There is little pressure on the domestic front for Shakhtar. The team is clearly ahead of the rest of the field and, after 25 rounds, holds an eight-point lead over the nearest challenger. That margin allows the club to focus almost entirely on Europe.
Since the winter break, Shakhtar has won 10 of 13 matches. The numbers are strong, but the Conference League has still brought some difficult moments. Polish side Lech put up a real fight and even won one of the two games (3-1, 1-2). Arda Turan’s team adjusted after that and handled AZ with much less drama (3-0, 2-2).
Crystal Palace Has Not Fully Opened Up Yet
Crystal Palace comes into the semifinal in mixed form. In its last two Premier League matches, Oliver Glasner’s side drew 0-0 with West Ham and then lost 3-1 to Liverpool. Still, Palace no longer has much to play for in the league and is clearly managing its energy for Europe.
The Conference League path has not always been smooth either. Even modest opponents such as Zrinjski Mostar (1-1, 2-0) and AEK Larnaca (0-0, 2-1) caused problems. But when Palace finally met a serious opponent, the team stepped up and effectively settled the tie against Fiorentina in the first leg (3-0, 1-2).
Predicted Lineup
Shakhtar (4-3-3): Riznyk – Tobias, Bondar, Matviyenko, Pedro Henrique – Ocheretko, Nazaryna, Isaka – Alisson, Elias, Neverton
Out: Udod (injury)
Manager: Arda Turan
Crystal Palace (3-4-3): Henderson – Canvot, Richards, Lacroix – Munoz, Wharton, Kamada, Mitchell – Sarr, Mateta, Pino
Out: Doucoure, Guessan, Nketiah (all injured)
Manager: Oliver Glasner
Stats and Trends
In the Conference League, Shakhtar allows opponents an average of 3.33 corners per game. Crystal Palace has been even more restrictive, allowing only 2.29. This does not look like a match that will produce many corners.
In Shakhtar’s nominal home matches, the team averages 1.17 yellow cards. Crystal Palace averages 1.86 yellow cards on the road. A high card count does not look especially likely here.
Shakhtar vs Crystal Palace Prediction: Crystal Palace to Win at 2.03
Main pick: Shakhtar deserves credit for reaching the semifinals, but there is no need to overstate the achievement. The toughest opponent on its path was a young and inconsistent AZ side. Shakhtar has not faced teams from Europe’s top leagues yet, and even against a lower level of competition it has had issues, including 2-1 losses to Legia and Lech, plus a 0-0 draw with Rijeka. The current level of the Ukrainian league does not always prepare teams well for this stage. Crystal Palace, on the other hand, has often played below full intensity in this tournament, mainly because Glasner has had to manage a limited squad. But when Palace is fully focused, it can overwhelm strong opponents, as Fiorentina found out in a 3-0 loss. Crystal Palace to win at 2.03 is the preferred pick.
Correct score pick: Shakhtar under Turan plays aggressive, attack-minded soccer. The team has scored at least once in 11 of its 12 Conference League matches. Crystal Palace has similar numbers, scoring in nine of its last 10 games. Palace’s attack has also improved lately, with four goals across two games against Fiorentina, two against Newcastle in a 2-1 win, and one even against Liverpool in a 3-1 loss. Shakhtar’s defense has been solid overall, but it is hard to see it holding out for the full match here. The correct score pick is 1-2 at 8.50.
