Alexander Zverev vs Vit Kopriva 16 June 2026 Prediction

Achievement unlocked: Zverev has finally won the first Grand Slam title of his career. He was the strongest player at Roland Garros, even though he did not face Sinner or Alcaraz directly. Alexander did not take long to celebrate his Major win: he will already play at the ATP 500 event in Halle. His first-round opponent is world No. 65 Vit Kopriva.

Surface speed: 8/10

Alexander Zverev

Zverev will arrive in Halle as a Roland Garros champion. He has also usually played well at this home ATP 500 event, reaching the final twice.

When Zverev is at his best, he has very few weaknesses: an excellent backhand, one of the best serves on tour, and strong return skills. The one area he still needs to improve is his focus in key moments. For example, in 2026, the world No. 3 has saved only 61% of break points. That is far from one of the best marks on tour.

If we look only at Grand Slams, grass is Zverev’s weakest surface. At Wimbledon, he has never gone beyond the fourth round, reaching that stage in 2017, 2021, and 2024. At other events, however, he has been much better: across his career, he has won 67% of his grass-court matches, going 49-24.

Vit Kopriva

Vit is having an average season. His main surface is clay, where he can sometimes get strong results thanks to excellent movement and defensive consistency. His fourth-round run at the Madrid Masters comes to mind, including wins over Rublev and Rinderknech. Still, that was more of a short peak than a sign of consistent form for the world No. 65.

Kopriva plays a fairly flat game, mostly built around his two-handed backhand. He relies on patience and movement, but he does not have an elite serve or major power. He averages fewer than four aces per match. On grass, the lack of a strong serve will be a major problem for him.

Grass clearly does not suit Vit: he has played only 10 career matches on this surface, even though he is already 28. His record is also modest at 5-5. Last year, for example, he was eliminated in the first round at Wimbledon.

Tournament History in Halle

  • Zverev traditionally comes to Halle every year. He first played this tournament in 2015 and immediately reached the Round of 16. In 2016 and 2017, he reached the final twice, losing to Mayer and Federer. Alexander also has three semifinals here between 2023 and 2025.
  • For Kopriva, this is his first career appearance in Halle. He has usually avoided grass-court tournaments, but in recent years he has secured a place in the top 100. That means he can no longer skip major events on this surface.

Alexander Zverev vs Vit Kopriva Prediction: Zverev Handicap -5.5

  • Main prediction: Even before winning Roland Garros, Zverev was having a solid season. He reached the final in Madrid and the semifinals at the Australian Open and Indian Wells. Halle is his first tournament after the Paris title, but this does not look like a situation where Alexander will underestimate the opponent after a Grand Slam win. Kopriva is clearly weak on grass, and Djokovic showed that in 2024 when he beat him comfortably at Wimbledon (6-1, 6-2, 6-2). Grass courts are a major problem for Kopriva. Our pick is Zverev handicap -5.5 games at 2.03.
  • Total prediction: On grass, Zverev should win service games quickly, and Kopriva’s return is unlikely to create serious problems for him. Kopriva, meanwhile, will face several difficulties: he does not have enough pace on serve, so Alexander should have more chances to break. Remember how easily the German handled lower-level opponents in Paris, where he did not drop a set to Bonzi, Machac, or de Jong. We will confidently take under 20.5 games at 1.70.
