Slavia Prague vs Lens 10 September 2026 Prediction

Gevorg Danielyan   Prediction by   Gevorg Danielyan     September 9, 2026

For the first time in club history, Slavia Prague have reached the Champions League league phase in consecutive seasons. Their record at this stage remains poor, with no wins in 19 matches. The home game against Lens offers a good opportunity to end that run, as the French side are dealing with numerous injuries and serious finishing problems.

Slavia Prague Pose a Major Attacking Threat at Home

The hosts enter the opening round of the Champions League in strong form. They lead their domestic league with 17 points from seven matches after recent wins over Sparta Prague (3-0) and Zbrojovka (4-0). Slavia have also been effective at both ends of the field at home. They average 3.56 expected goals and 3.25 goals per home game. Their defense has been just as reliable, with no visiting team generating even 1 xG in Prague. Lens could struggle to break down such an organized unit.

Forced lineup changes are unlikely to disrupt Slavia’s flexible approach. The team can give up possession and attack on the counter when necessary. Injuries to center back David Zima and winger Lukas Provod may affect their buildup and lead to mistakes under pressure. However, 6-foot-6 striker Tomas Chory is in excellent form after scoring twice against Zbrojovka. He can occupy multiple defenders, provide a direct passing option and dominate in the air against an unfamiliar Lens back line.

Lens: Injury Problems and Poor Finishing

Lens have suffered a clear drop in form. Wins over PSG in the French Super Cup (1-0) and Auxerre (5-2) were followed by defeats to Strasbourg (2-1) and Lorient (1-0). Lens recorded 34 shots and 4.19 xG across those two losses but scored only once, from the penalty spot. They continue to create chances, but their finishing remains poor. Problems with the final pass also mean they need too many opportunities to score from sustained attacks. Dino Toppmöller’s team will continue to rely on set pieces and a high-intensity press.

The number of unavailable players leaves the manager with limited options. The defense is particularly depleted. Mike Nawrocki, Samson Baidoo and Saud Abdulhamid are out, while Matthieu Udol and Nidal Celik are doubtful. Jonathan Gradit has only recently returned from a serious injury. Lens brought in Jean-Clair Todibo on loan, but his fitness remains uncertain. Toppmöller may still have to start him, increasing the risk of positioning errors. The absence of defensive midfielder Yassine Titraoui will also affect the quality of Lens’ pressing and defensive transitions.

Slavia Prague vs Lens Predicted Lineup

Slavia Prague (3-4-2-1): Markovic, Vlcek, Chaloupek, Konecny, Isife, Novak, Sadilek, Jurasek, Sturm, Ayosi, Chory

Unavailable: Zima, Provod, Holes, Uanda, Suleiman (all injured), Ogbu, Kolar (both omitted from the squad), Moses (doubtful)

Manager: Jindrich Trpisovsky

Lens (3-4-2-1): Risser, Antonio, Ganiou, Todibo, Aguilar, Haidara, Cuisance, Skoras, Thauvin, Ivanovic, Edouard

Unavailable: Abdulhamid, Baidoo, Nawrocki, Titraoui (all injured), Chavez, Mesloub (both omitted from the squad), Udol, Celik (both doubtful)

Manager: Dino Toppmöller

Referee: Vasilis Fotias (Greece)

His numbers in European competition last season were close to the average. He averaged four yellow cards and 23.4 fouls per game in the Europa League and Conference League. A penalty or red card was recorded in half of those matches.

Slavia Prague vs Lens Prediction: Slavia Prague to Win

Main prediction: Lens face a difficult road game given their current injury problems. They create chances regularly but have struggled to convert them, which could prove costly at Champions League level. Slavia are particularly dangerous at home, where they average 3.25 goals per game. Lens’ depleted defense, with Todibo still short of full fitness, may struggle against the hosts’ physical attack. Slavia also have injuries, but their recent form gives them a clear advantage. The pick is Slavia Prague to win at 2.50.

Goals prediction: Defensive absences on both sides could lead to positioning errors and open space. Both teams also create plenty of chances. Slavia have generated 14.23 xG across four home matches, while Lens have recorded 4.19 xG over their last two games. The French side have failed to score in only three of their 18 Champions League league-phase matches, but their own defense is now severely depleted. An open game with chances at both ends is likely. The secondary pick is Both Teams to Score: Yes at 1.62.
