Atlanta Hawks vs Houston Rockets 25 October 2026 Prediction

Gevorg Danielyan   Prediction by   Gevorg Danielyan     October 23, 2026

Atlanta and Houston both opened the regular season with wins. The Hawks beat Orlando 132-125, while the Rockets defeated Dallas 128-110 at home. Both teams will be playing the second game of a back-to-back, and Ime Udoka is expected to rotate his lineup. Can Atlanta extend its five-game winning streak?

Atlanta’s Pace and Perimeter Depth

Atlanta’s 132-125 road win over Orlando showed how quickly its offense can take over. After falling behind in the first quarter, the Hawks increased the pace and won the second 44-29. Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 31 points and hit two decisive 3-pointers late in the game.

The Hawks can get production from several players and have a deep bench. Jalen Johnson had 20 points and 14 rebounds in the opener, giving Atlanta another reliable option when a teammate struggles. That depth should help Quin Snyder manage the back-to-back.

Atlanta Predicted Lineup: McCollum – Alexander-Walker, Daniels – Johnson, Okongwu

Out: Veesaar and Gueye (both injured)

Manager: Quin Snyder

Houston Plans to Sit VanVleet in Back-to-Backs

Houston was effective on both ends of the floor in its 128-110 season-opening win over Dallas. This matchup presents a different challenge. The Rockets must travel from San Antonio to Atlanta, and Udoka said before the season that Fred VanVleet would sit out the second game of back-to-backs for medical reasons. Marcus Smart and Reed Sheppard are expected to split his minutes.

“His job is to come in and serve as a second point guard, contribute with or without the ball, and give us a spark every night. He’s obviously one of our best shooters. The threat of his shot, and the attention he draws on the perimeter, makes a big difference,” Udoka said of Sheppard in a recent interview.

Without its starting point guard, Houston will have to adjust its half-court offense. Smart helps defensively but is less effective as a primary playmaker. Atlanta’s pressure could make it harder to get the ball to Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun. Sengun will also be without his usual backup, as Steven Adams is expected to rest.

Houston Predicted Lineup: Smart – Thompson, Durant – Smith Jr., Sengun

Out: None listed

Manager: Ime Udoka

Houston Beat Atlanta Twice Last Season

Houston won both meetings in the 2025-26 regular season, 104-86 and 117-95.

Atlanta vs Houston Prediction: Atlanta to Win

Main prediction: VanVleet and Adams are expected to sit, leaving Houston with fewer options on the second night of a back-to-back. Atlanta faced a less demanding opponent the day before and has the deeper rotation. The Rockets, meanwhile, must travel after a difficult road game against San Antonio. Houston may try to play more cautiously, but Atlanta has strong perimeter defenders in Dyson Daniels and Luguentz Dort. The pick is Atlanta to win.

Total prediction: Houston’s offense is likely to play at a slower pace without VanVleet, while a starting backcourt of Smart and Amen Thompson would give the Rockets a more defensive lineup. Neither meeting last season produced more than 212 combined points. With both teams on a back-to-back, under 228.5 total points is worth considering.
