Hungary vs Finland 5 June 2026 Prediction
This should be an experimental match. Ahead of the Nations League starting in the fall, the managers of Hungary and Finland have decided to refresh their national-team squads and call up several new players. For Finland, that approach already led to a 4-0 loss to Germany. How will Hungary’s rotation work out?
Hungary Add New Talent Around Their Current Core
Since Euro 2021, Hungary have been viewed as a team with a strong future, but that progress has not fully arrived yet. The team failed in 2026 World Cup qualifying and, across six matches, managed only two wins over Armenia (2-0, 1-0). The spring friendlies also did not add much confidence. In two games against Slovenia (1-0) and Greece (0-0), Hungary produced a combined 2.64 xG but scored only once. All of this points to clear finishing problems. Hungary are not converting enough of the chances they should be scoring from.
Aware of the team’s regression, Hungary manager Marco Rossi said he wants to see more attacking activity from his players, which is why he deliberately picked less difficult opponents for the summer friendlies. Rossi has also called up five debutants and eight players from the youth setup overall. The team is expected to rotate, but the leaders are also available, including Barnabas Varga, who returned to the squad after missing the spring camp and recorded 13 goals and 3 assists in 28 matches.
Finland Are Going Through a Generational Change
For many years, Teemu Pukki was Finland’s main forward. However, he was not called up for the matches against Germany and Hungary. Starting midfielder Glen Kamara is out injured, as are center backs Robert Ivanov and Arttu Hoskonen. The first test without those leaders did not go well, as Finland lost 4-0 to Germany.
The match against Germany again exposed Finland’s problems in chance creation. The Finns produced only 0.4 xG and failed to score. Across their last eight away matches, the Scandinavian side’s average xG is also below one (0.90), as is their average goals scored (0.88). At the same time, all of their strongest attacking players are available.

Hungary vs Finland Prediction: Hungary -1.5 Handicap at 2.56
- Main prediction: Hungary did not impress in their recent friendlies. However, this time the team could improve. First, the manager deliberately selected opponents with a lower level of resistance. Second, a proven striker has returned to the squad and could help solve the team’s finishing issues. Third, Finland are weakened by the absence of two starting center backs, as well as Kamara, who regularly protected the defense. Finally, Hungary’s debutants should be motivated to impress Marco Rossi and are likely to play with high intensity. Finland, meanwhile, are only starting to adapt to life without several key national-team figures. The Finns have serious away-game chance creation issues, and the heavy loss to Germany will not help them emotionally or physically. Considering all of that, we are backing Hungary -1.5 handicap at 2.56.
- Goals prediction: Hungary will most likely start experienced defenders, led by Willi Orban. According to Rossi, defensive stability remains a major priority, so Hungary are unlikely to attack without regard for their own half. In their two previous friendlies, Hungary allowed Slovenia and Greece to create only 0.75 xG combined and did not concede. The defense is working well, so we like both teams to score — no at 1.82.
