Bayern Munich vs Leipzig 15 August 2026 Prediction
Competitive soccer is returning to the Allianz Arena, although this one is still a friendly. Leipzig struggled badly in Munich last season under Ole Werner, losing both the league and cup meetings by a combined score of 0-8. Can Martin Demichelis, a former Bayern player, produce a better result against his old club?
Bayern Is Gradually Returning to Full Strength
Because of the World Cup and the later Bundesliga start, the German champions have taken a measured approach to preseason. In the first summer friendly, Vincent Kompany mainly evaluated academy players, so the 2-1 loss to modest Wehen should not be overinterpreted. The traditional 15-0 win over amateur side Rottach-Egern also offered little in terms of serious conclusions. Bayern only began to build real match fitness during its Asian tour, where the team beat Jeju 2-1 and reigning Europa League holder Aston Villa 2-1 in hot and humid conditions.
Bayern has mostly used familiar combinations in defense, with Dayot Upamecano the main absentee. The attack, however, has still featured plenty of young players who are unlikely to receive many minutes once competitive matches begin. Michael Olise and Harry Kane remain on vacation after long seasons, while several other attacking players have only recently returned from injuries. Lennart Karl, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry, and new signing Ismael Saibari have all resumed team training, so they could feature in this match and add considerably more quality going forward.
Leipzig Has Lost Attacking Quality
Ole Werner guided Leipzig back into the Champions League while rebuilding the squad, but his relationship with the club's senior management did not last. Martin Demichelis was chosen as his replacement after being relegated to the Segunda Division with Mallorca last season. Under Demichelis, Leipzig has played five friendlies, beating three lower-division local opponents, two of them by only a one-goal margin, before losing away to the strongest teams on its schedule: Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 and Leeds 2-0. Leipzig used plenty of young players in South Africa, while the lineup in England was much closer to full strength.
The long-running transfer saga involving Yan Diomande ended last week. The winger produced 12 goals and nine assists in 33 Bundesliga matches last season before leaving for a club-record €125 million fee. That is a major loss that Leipzig has yet to fully replace. Rocco Reitz looks like a promising addition, but the versatile midfielder is still recovering from illness and has yet to make a matchday squad. Assan Ouedraogo and Christoph Baumgartner are also sidelined. Both are important midfielders who contribute heavily in the final third. Baumgartner recorded 17 goals and nine assists in all competitions last season, even outperforming Diomande in total goal contributions. Leipzig's attacking potential is currently well below its previous level.

Bayern vs Leipzig Prediction: Bayern Handicap -1.5
Main prediction: Bayern is still some way from peak condition, but the hosts nevertheless look like clear favorites against the current Leipzig side. Munich recently beat Aston Villa, with Luis Diaz making his first appearance since the World Cup, while Musiala, Karl, Gnabry, and Saibari have all returned since the previous friendlies. Leipzig, meanwhile, has become weaker over the last few weeks. Demichelis' team lost by two goals to its two strongest preseason opponents, both of whom are still below Bayern's level. Facing the German champions at the Allianz Arena is a much tougher test. Friendlies can be unpredictable, but the gap in squad quality is still significant. Our pick is Bayern handicap -1.5 at odds of 1.83.
Totals prediction: There are legitimate doubts about whether Leipzig can score at all. The team failed to find the net against Leeds and was also held scoreless in its last two competitive visits to Munich, losing 6-0 and 2-0. Bayern scored twice against Aston Villa on neutral ground and is only now getting more of its attacking players back. With several important forwards available again after missing earlier friendlies, the hosts should create plenty of chances. Our pick is Bayern over 2.5 team goals at odds of 1.80.
