Manchester United vs Milan 15 August 2026 Prediction
AC Milan returns to Europe after its tour of Asia and Australia for a high-profile friendly against Manchester United. The Rossoneri will also look to respond after a heavy 3-0 loss to Chelsea. The matchup carries extra significance for new Milan manager Ruben Amorim, who faces his former club for the first time since leaving Manchester United earlier this year.
Manchester United Has Looked Strong Against Top Opposition
Michael Carrick took over after Amorim's departure and a brief spell under interim manager Darren Fletcher, guiding Manchester United to third place in the Premier League and back into the Champions League. The club rewarded him with a permanent contract, and the team has continued to show progress during preseason. United lost 1-0 to Wrexham early in its preparations while working under heavy training loads, but has gone unbeaten in four friendlies since then, winning three of them, including one on penalties. The most notable results were a 1-1 draw with reigning European champion PSG and a 2-1 win over last season's semifinalist Atletico Madrid.
Against strong European opposition, Manchester United has defended well in a mid-block and looked dangerous in transition. Bryan Mbeumo has been the team's standout performer this summer, recording a goal contribution in each of his last three matches. The Cameroon international scored three goals across the games against PSG and Atletico, then assisted Joshua Zirkzee in the 1-1 draw with Leeds, which United later won on penalties.
Manchester United has avoided a major transfer overhaul this summer. Aside from signing backup goalkeeper Karl Darlow on a free transfer, the club made two significant additions. After Casemiro left for MLS, United strengthened central midfield with Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa. They have yet to play together, but both have looked solid individually. In this matchup, Santos is expected to handle more of the defensive work, while Tielemans should take responsibility for progressing the ball.
Milan Is Still Winless Under Amorim
After a disappointing end to the 2025/26 season, Milan changed direction again and appointed another Portuguese manager, its third in two years. The Rossoneri has yet to win under Ruben Amorim. Milan has played three friendlies this summer, with the 1-1 draw against Inter the only result that can be viewed positively.
Even in the derby in Australia, Milan was second best for long periods, losing the xG battle 1.36 to 2.32, while its only goal came from a questionable penalty. Three days later, the 3-0 loss to Chelsea highlighted how much work Amorim still has ahead of him. Chelsea played through Milan's press too easily, regularly broke the defensive structure with single passes, and caused repeated problems with crosses into the box.
Many of Milan's issues can be partly explained by experimentation and heavy rotation. According to Italian media, Amorim is expected to use a much stronger lineup on Saturday with the opening Serie A match against Torino approaching. Christian Pulisic remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from injury, while Mike Maignan and Adrien Rabiot were given additional time off after the World Cup. Mario Gila has returned from injury and is ready to play on the right side of the back three. New striker Goncalo Ramos is also expected to start after previously appearing only as a substitute.

Manchester United vs Milan Prediction: Manchester United to Win
- Main prediction: Amorim's style is very different from the more pragmatic approach Milan used previously, and the players are still adapting to his demands. The Portuguese manager's pressing system has not worked consistently so far, leaving too much space for opponents to exploit in Milan's half. Manchester United is well equipped to take advantage of that weakness. Carrick's team has been effective on the counterattack, while Mbeumo enters the match in excellent form. We expect Milan's winless run to continue. Our pick is Manchester United to win at odds of 1.87.
- Totals prediction: We do not expect an especially high-scoring game. Milan has scored only once across its last two friendlies, while Manchester United's last two matches have also stayed below high totals. Our pick is under 2.5 goals at odds of 2.31.
