Tottenham Hotspur vs Hoffenheim 15 August 2026 Prediction
Hoffenheim has played highly attacking soccer throughout preseason, regularly producing big scoring numbers. Tottenham, however, represents a much tougher level of opposition. Can Spurs' rebuilt defense handle Hoffenheim's aggressive approach, or will this turn into another high-scoring friendly?
Tottenham Is Testing Its Rebuilt Squad
Under Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham has gone unbeaten through five preseason friendlies. The London side recorded three wins, including a 2-1 victory over Chelsea, and two draws. The main positive is that the team appears to be adapting quickly to the new manager's ideas and has scored in every match. At the same time, conceding against solid opponents such as Getafe in a 1-1 draw shows that Tottenham's defensive structure still needs work.
Tottenham has made significant changes to the squad this summer, particularly in midfield and defense. Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes are the most notable additions in central midfield. Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, and Marcos Senesi were brought in to strengthen the back line. Spurs also moved on from several players, including Yves Bissouma, Manor Solomon, and young defender Luka Vuskovic. The squad looks stronger on paper, although the new combinations still need time to develop.
Tottenham enters this match with several important absences. Xavi Simons and Wilson Odobert are both sidelined long term with ACL injuries, while Dejan Kulusevski continues to recover from a knee problem. Cristian Romero is not included in the squad as he continues to look for a new club. There is some positive news, with Mohammed Kudus nearing a return from a thigh injury and James Maddison now fully recovered.
Hoffenheim Has Been Scoring Freely
Hoffenheim has played very open and productive soccer during preseason. The German side won its first five friendlies by a combined score of 34-2, although 21 of those goals came in a 21-0 win over amateur side Massenbachhausen. More meaningful results include convincing victories over Greuther Furth, 4-1, and Karlsruher, 3-0. The first test against Bundesliga opposition exposed much bigger defensive problems, however, as Hoffenheim lost 4-1 to Borussia Monchengladbach. The attacking numbers are impressive, but the defense remains vulnerable against stronger teams.
Hoffenheim has also been active in the transfer market. The biggest departure was talented winger Bazoumana Toure, who joined Newcastle for €50 million. Experienced players Kevin Akpoguma and Grischa Promel also left on free transfers. Hoffenheim reinvested in younger talent, signing Nathan De Cat from Anderlecht for €18.5 million and Adam Daghim from Salzburg for €13 million, while Mats Rots and Patrick Wimmer were added to strengthen the wide areas. The squad has plenty of potential, but several new pieces are still being integrated.
The biggest concern for Christian Ilzer is the absence of Andrej Kramaric. Hoffenheim's long-time attacking leader is recovering from groin surgery and is still training individually. Defender Koki Machida is also sidelined with an ACL injury. Alessandro Vogt has returned to full training after recovering from an ankle problem.

Tottenham vs Hoffenheim Prediction: Tottenham to Win
Main prediction: Hoffenheim's preseason scoring numbers are impressive, with 35 goals across six matches, but most of that production came against amateur and lower-division opposition. The first serious test against a Bundesliga team ended in a 4-1 loss to Borussia Monchengladbach. Tottenham has looked much more balanced under De Zerbi, going through preseason unbeaten and even beating Chelsea. Spurs are missing several players, but they still have considerably more quality and depth than their opponent. Our pick is Tottenham to win at odds of 2.00.
Totals prediction: All six of Hoffenheim's preseason matches have produced at least three goals. The German side attacks aggressively but continues to make defensive mistakes. Tottenham also favors proactive attacking soccer and has scored in every friendly this summer. With neither side under competitive pressure, an open game looks likely. Our pick is over 2.5 goals at odds of 1.63.
