Rafael Jodar vs Alexander Zverev 2 June 2026 Prediction

There was no further upset in the French capital. Youth ultimately prevailed over experience, as Jodar turned the match around against Carreno Busta. In his Roland Garros debut, he has reached the quarterfinals, something previously achieved only by Ferrero (2000), Verkerk (2003), Nadal (2005), Sinner (2020), and Rune (2022). His next opponent in Paris will be the experienced Alexander Zverev. Can the young Spaniard beat the world No. 3?

Court speed: 4/10

Jodar

Jodar has made a major rise in recent months. A year ago at this time, he was outside the top 700. Now he is among the strongest players in the world. Since the tour moved to clay, he has been in the middle of a breakout run, winning the Marrakech title (ATP 250), reaching the semifinals in Barcelona (ATP 500), and making the quarterfinals at the Masters events in Madrid and Rome.

Rafael plays an aggressive style of tennis. He looks to attack constantly and control the match from the first game to the last. Every third shot he hits is an attacking one. Most importantly, he has an excellent competitive mindset. He can hit winners under pressure in moments when many players become hesitant. On return, he is especially strong against second serves, which is backed up by a solid 56% of points won in Paris.

During the clay-court swing, Sinner won the biggest events (ATP 1000) in Monte Carlo, Madrid, and Rome, but Jodar has the highest number of match wins. He has won 19 of his 22 matches.

Zverev

This French Open quarterfinal will be the eighth of Zverev’s career at this tournament. He has previously reached the semifinals in 57% of those matches (4 of 7). However, it is worth remembering how recently in Rome he lost a match against Darderi that he had nearly won, largely because of a mental drop-off.

Despite his height, Zverev moves very well along the baseline and is reliable defensively. One of the most consistent backhands on tour helps him a lot in that area. At his best, though, he focuses on attacking play and uses his powerful, accurate serve as efficiently as possible. His service hold rate in Paris has been excellent, as he has held 92% of his service games.

If Jodar (19) and Sinner (18) lead the tour in clay-court wins this spring, Zverev is right behind them. He has won 17 of his 21 matches on the surface.

Tournament Path

  • Jodar has not had a smooth run in the French capital, but he has not backed down. His last two matches both went to five sets. In the key moments, he finally broke the resistance of Michelsen (7-6, 6-7, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3) and Carreno Busta (4-6, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2, 6-2).
  • Zverev has had no real problems at Roland Garros so far. Before the quarterfinals, he dropped only one set, against Halys (6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2), while beating Bonzi (6-3, 6-4, 6-2), Machac (6-4, 6-2, 6-2), and de Jong (7-6, 6-4, 6-1) in straight sets.

Rafael Jodar vs Alexander Zverev Prediction: Jodar (+5.5) Handicap at 1.85

Main prediction: Zverev’s main advantage over Jodar is experience. The German already has 17 Grand Slam quarterfinals behind him, while the young Spaniard will play at this stage for the first time. Alexander has reached the semifinals in 63% of those matches (10 of 16), but that does not eliminate Rafael’s chances. Current form matters more. During the clay-court part of the season, Jodar has won 86% of his matches (19 of 22), while Zverev has won 81% (17 of 21). The numbers in Paris are also worth noting. The German is not far ahead of the Spaniard in first-serve accuracy (70% vs 65%) and, most importantly, service games held (92% vs 85%). On return, Rafael has been slightly better in some areas: like Alexander, he has converted a strong 47% of break points, while winning marginally more return games (36% vs 35%). This matchup should be competitive, so the pick is Jodar to win on games with a (+5.5) handicap at 1.85.

Total prediction: Even though a close match is expected, it may not produce a very high number of games. The statistics point in that direction. Only three of the players’ seven matches in Paris have gone over 39 games. Their average match length is just 36 games when rounded up. It is also worth looking at Zverev’s previous Roland Garros quarterfinals: in six of seven cases, the maximum total was 38 games. His average in those matches is around 33 games. That makes under 38.5 games at 1.69 a reasonable option.
