Flavio Cobolli vs Alexander Zverev 7 June 2026 Prediction
Since 2024, Sinner and Alcaraz have taken control of the tour, splitting the Grand Slam titles between them. At the start of this season, the main question in tennis was whether anyone, even Djokovic, could disrupt their dominance. In the end, that streak will be broken by someone else: Cobolli or Zverev. The Italian is an unexpected Roland Garros finalist, while the German is a three-time Grand Slam runner-up. Can Flavio stop Alexander from finally winning the major title he has been chasing?
Surface Speed: 4/10
Cobolli (3 ATP 250+ Titles; Prize Money: $6,417,488)
Last summer, Cobolli reached a major quarterfinal for the first time at Wimbledon. Now in Paris, he will play his first Grand Slam final. During the clay swing, he has won 74% of his matches (14-5), which supports both his high level and his expected Top 10 debut next week.
Flavio’s tennis combines strong court coverage with heavy baseline hitting. He also has excellent stamina and keeps fighting in difficult situations, putting opponents under constant pressure. The Italian No. 2 has posted strong numbers in Paris, but there are concerns about his first-serve percentage (54%) and his return performance against second serves (46%). That could be a serious issue in the final.
Cobolli deserves credit, but his record against elite opponents is a concern. He has lost 89% of his career matches against Top 5 opponents (8 of 9). On clay, he has lost 75% of his meetings with Top 5 players (3 of 4).
Zverev (24 ATP 250+ Titles; Prize Money: $52,381,778)
Zverev has rarely been closer to achieving his biggest goal. This year, he has reached Grand Slam finals at back-to-back majors for the first time in his career. After losing to Sinner in Australia, he will be fully motivated to finally get over the line in France.
Early in his career, Alexander often lacked aggression, but his game has evolved over time. That has been especially clear this season: he is attacking more and hitting with greater power. He has also said he wants to do more than simply trade shots — he wants to take the racket out of opponents’ hands. In Paris, he has been excellent both on serve and return. A 73% first-serve rate has helped him win 76% of points behind his first serve and 66% behind his second, while he has also won 32% of return games.
As usual, Zverev has been very strong on European clay this season. His 83% win rate (19-4) is the clearest evidence.
Tournament Run
- Cobolli has not faced many major problems on his way to a first Grand Slam final. He beat Pellegrino (6-4, 7-6, 6-3), Wu (6-4, 6-4, 6-4), and Tien (6-2, 6-2, 6-3) in straight sets. He then got through Svajda (6-2, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6) and Auger-Aliassime (4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-4) in four sets. Still, it is worth noting that only one of his defeated opponents was a Top 10 player.
- Unlike two years ago, Zverev has had a relatively smooth path to another Roland Garros final. He dropped one set to Halys (6-4, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2) and Mensik (7-5, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3), while beating Bonzi (6-3, 6-4, 6-2), Machac (6-4, 6-2, 6-2), De Jong (7-6, 6-4, 6-1), and Jodar (7-6, 6-1, 6-3) in straight sets. He has beaten every opponent by at least seven games.
Flavio Cobolli vs Alexander Zverev Prediction: Zverev to Win With a (-5.5) Game Handicap at 1.94
- Main Prediction: Three Grand Slam finals, three losses. Will Zverev’s fourth attempt finally be successful? This looks like his best opportunity. The draw has opened up, with the main rivals out of the way, including all Top 10 players led by Sinner, Alcaraz, and Djokovic. Cobolli is also a favorable matchup. The German has won three of their four meetings, including a straight-sets win over Flavio at Roland Garros last year (6-2, 7-6, 6-1). Zverev also beat him in Madrid two months ago, again in straight sets (6-1, 6-4). On top of that, Top 5 opponents have generally been too much for the Italian, who has lost eight of his last nine such matches. Zverev has been beating opponents in Paris by at least six games, so we recommend Zverev to win with a (-5.5) game handicap at 1.94.
- Total Prediction: The likely length of the final is not too hard to assess. First, Cobolli and Zverev’s previous meeting in Paris lasted only 28 games. Second, since last week, none of their matches has gone over 43 games, with an average of just 29 games. That points toward under 39.5 total games at 1.72.
