Bolivia vs Scotland 6 June 2026 Prediction
Bolivia are only the nominal hosts of this match. Although the national team failed to qualify for the World Cup, they agreed to travel to the United States, including for a friendly against Scotland. However, their squad will be far from full strength, as many players were denied entry into the country. The visitors will certainly try to take advantage of that.
Bolivia Are Depleted and Short-Handed
The Greens failed to qualify for the World Cup for the eighth straight time. They narrowly reached the playoff spot thanks to a surprise 1-0 win over Brazil, but eventually lost the ticket to Iraq (1-2). It is worth noting that Bolivia had the worst defensive numbers in South American qualifying, allowing an average of 1.5 xGA. In reality, they conceded even more often — 1.9 goals per game. Interestingly, Carlos Lampe kept clean sheets in three of four rounds, including against Brazil, but Guillermo Viscarra is usually preferred in goal.
Since last year, Oscar Villegas’ team have faced a European opponent only once — a friendly against Russia (0-3). Back then, Bolivia traveled to Moscow with a fairly competitive squad. This time, the roster issues are much more serious.
Because of injuries and visa problems, seven players will miss the match, five of whom were contenders for the starting lineup. The midfield and attacking flanks have been hit especially hard. Hector Cuellar, Moises Villamil, R. Vaca, Miguelito, Carlos Melgar, and Moises Paniagua are unavailable. The coaching staff had to replace them urgently with 16-year-old teenagers. Bolivia still have decent options in central midfield, but there are no strong wingers left. At full back, we are likely to see two players from Akron Tolyatti — Yomar Rocha and Roberto Fernandez.
Scotland Have Lost Their Midfield Anchor
Scotland had a strong World Cup qualifying campaign, taking four points from head-to-head matches against group favorite Denmark (0-0, 4-2). As a result, the national team qualified directly for its first World Cup since 1998. Scotland were much luckier at home than away. At home, they scored 9 goals from 4.23 xG, while on the road they scored 3 from 5.22 xG.
As part of their World Cup preparation, the Tartan Army tested themselves against opponents from different continents, but their only win came against Curacao (4-1), and that was helped by a first-half red card for the island team. Japan (0-1) and Ivory Coast (0-1) created much more danger, with Scotland losing the xG battle 1.81 to 4.14 across those matches, so the results were fair.
The coaching staff have only one squad issue, but it is a major one. Billy Gilmour, Scotland’s main defensive midfielder, was injured in the previous match. That puts even more responsibility on Scott McTominay, who will now have to drop deeper more often. Steve Clarke has also made it clear that captain Andrew Robertson will be rested. His place will likely go to Aaron Tierney, who had little playing time at Brentford. Changes are also expected in central defense and in goal. Experienced Angus Gunn and Grant Hanley were not used in the previous friendly.

Bolivia vs Scotland Prediction: Scotland -1.5 Handicap at 1.93
- Main prediction: Bolivia’s situation is difficult. The team missed a good chance to reach the World Cup, still traveled to the United States, and then found out at the last moment that half of the likely starting lineup had visa issues. Even before that, Bolivia had lost five of their last seven friendlies. That is telling, as every opponent except one was ranked well above them in the FIFA rankings, just like Scotland. The visitors have won five of their last six matches against teams ranked below them. It makes sense to take a slight risk with Scotland -1.5 handicap at 1.93 and correct score 2-0 at 6.50.
- Goals prediction: Most of Bolivia’s squad issues are connected to the attack. They may be able to avoid a heavy defeat, but scoring will be very difficult. Even with stronger squads, Bolivia found the net in only two of their last seven friendlies. Those goals came only against weaker opponents on paper — Panama (1-1) and Trinidad and Tobago (3-0). We will take both teams to score — no at 1.84.
