Bosnia & Herzegovina vs Poland 5 October 2026 Prediction
After three games, Sweden leads the group with seven points, followed by Bosnia and Herzegovina with five and Poland with four. A home win in Zenica would give Bosnia and Herzegovina a four-point lead over Poland. A Polish win would put the visitors ahead instead. Poland will have to do it without captain Robert Lewandowski, who is suspended for yellow-card accumulation.
Bosnia and Herzegovina's Compact Defense
Bosnia and Herzegovina is unbeaten so far. It drew 0-0 in Poland, beat Romania 4-2 and drew 1-1 at home against Sweden. Those games, however, told different stories. Bosnia and Herzegovina generated 2.41 expected goals (xG) in Bucharest, finding space on the flanks throughout the match. Against Sweden, it managed just 0.11 xG. Sergej Barbarez's team can struggle to create chances against an organized defense, but it has been effective when given room to attack.
Bosnia and Herzegovina defends in a disciplined low block and looks to break quickly through the flanks. In the recent 0-0 draw in Warsaw, it limited Poland's play through the middle, and the hosts created little before halftime. Bosnia and Herzegovina offered little in attack, though, and came under more pressure after the break as Poland moved the ball faster and brought its wide players forward. Avoiding another second-half drop-off will matter in Zenica, especially after several players suffered cramps during the full 90 minutes against Sweden.
The biggest change is Edin Dzeko's retirement from international soccer. The Sweden game was the 40-year-old forward's last for the national team. Barbarez has already used Ermedin Demirovic and Haris Tabakovic together up front, including in the first meeting with Poland. Esmir Bajraktarevic and Kerim Alajbegovic are expected on the wings, where much of Bosnia and Herzegovina's early attacking threat has come from. Young goalkeeper Hamzic is likely to keep his place. First-choice keeper Nikola Vasilj is out for the campaign, while backup Martin Zlomislic has fitness concerns.
Poland's Attack Without Lewandowski
Poland opened with a 0-0 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina and a 3-1 loss in Sweden before beating Romania 6-0. That last result needs context: Romania went down to 10 men in the 22nd minute. The Sweden game is more revealing. Poland took 18 shots but trailed 2.15 to 0.91 in xG. Poland has produced plenty of attacks, but its chance creation was inconsistent before the Romania game. It also struggled to create against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Manager Jan Urban has been moving Poland toward a more direct approach. Nicola Zalewski advances the ball in one-on-one situations, Piotr Zielinski and Sebastian Szymanski find space between the lines, and Nowak brings movement to central midfield. Poland improved noticeably after Nowak came on in the second half of its first game against Bosnia and Herzegovina. A quicker start could help the visitors avoid another slow buildup against a compact defense.
Poland's main absence is Lewandowski, who scored a hat trick against Romania before picking up a suspension. Karol Swiderski is the likeliest replacement at center forward, with Zukowski and Szymanski behind him. Kaminski remains unavailable, leaving Zalewski with more responsibility out wide. The rest of the core is intact, and Urban substituted several key players early against Romania. Major changes are unlikely.

Bosnia and Herzegovina vs Poland Prediction: Bosnia and Herzegovina to Win at 3.42
Main prediction: Bosnia and Herzegovina has been more consistent in the Nations League. It is unbeaten after drawing in Warsaw, scoring four against Romania and taking a point from Sweden. Poland's 6-0 win over Romania came against 10 men for most of the game, and the visitors are now without Lewandowski, who scored a hat trick in that match. If Bosnia and Herzegovina can defend as effectively as it did in Warsaw, it has a good chance of getting a result at home. Bosnia and Herzegovina or draw is the safer option at 1.75, but the main pick is Bosnia and Herzegovina to win at 3.42.
Total goals prediction: The first meeting was a 0-0 draw in which the teams combined for just five shots on target. Bosnia and Herzegovina has little reason to move away from the defensive setup that contained Poland in Warsaw. It generated only 0.11 xG against Sweden, while Poland must now play without Lewandowski, who finishes many of its attacks. Another low-scoring game is plausible. The pick is under 2.5 goals at 1.83.
